The Churches Together Movement
The
various Christian denominations are working together today more
and more as they realise that it is time to put behind the divisions
of previous generations and work together in the realisation that
there is only one Church.
Jesus prayed "That they may all be one...
that the world may believe" (John 17:21). The Churches Together
movement (or "Ecumenical" movement) is seeking the fulfillment
of that prayer. Whilst recognising that there are differences of
belief, opinion
and practice,
there
is
also a lot that unites the different streams of the Church.
This has its outworking at all levels, from local
communities, right up through county and national level, to the
Worldwide Church. Derby Church Net works mostly at the more local
levels, and is supported by Churches Together in Derbyshire, an
enabling body that works across the county to encourage and unite
people from different denominations.
