Travel Around Derbyshire Below is some information on travelling to and around Derbyshire, with links to other sites with further details. Don't forget Find a Church links to maps of many church centres throughout the county. There are good transport links with the rest of the country, with the M1, M6, M42/A42, A6, A38 and A50 all running either through or close to the county. The M1 runs North-South along the Eastern edge of the county; the A38 and M42/A42 link Derby and South Derbyshire to Birmingham. The A50 runs across the South of the county, linking it to the M1 and M6. The A6 runs through the county North to South, linking Manchester, Buxton, Bakewell, Matlock, Derby and the M1. Rail links are good, with Derby Midland Station being a point where several routes link. Links from here head in many directions, and is easy to get to from many parts of the country. There are links from Derby up to Matlock and Chesterfield. Whilst there are no direct rail links through the county, North-West and South-East are linked via Sheffield.
Whilst there are no major airports in the county itself, Nottingham East Midlands serves the southern half, and Manchester the north. Birmingham Airport is within reach to the south-west. Robin Hood Airport is also close to the north-east of the county.
Derbyshire is served by a number of bus companies, including the three major operators linked to below. You can also use the general travel sites for planning your journey throughout the county.
