Tissington Trail of Pilgrimage

A day on the trail with the Bishop of Derby

A group of Christians from across Derbyshire set out onto the Tissington Trail last month for a day of pilgrimage and celebration with the Bishop of Derby, Alastair Redfern.

The day, entitled ‘Spirit and Creation’ included a range of activities for young and old, including cycling, guided walks, family and children’s activities and even a cream tea! They explored themes relating to Pentecost and Creation, and there was a seminar about ‘Christian lifestyle and the care of creation’ along with displays and stalls about local and national environmental issues.

The day began in Ashbourne, from where those cycling were taken to Parsley Hay and the start of the 13½ mile ride. The aim of the cycle ride was to allow people to celebrate God’s creation by experiencing the beauty of the Peak District National Park and to challenge people to “get on their bikes” in conjunction with the Cycle England initiative.

Others joined in at various points along the route for the activities, including at Hartington, Ruby Wood, Alsop, Tissington, Thorpe and Mapleton. The day ended back in Ashbourne, where there were displays and stalls, with a final celebration for Pentecost at 5.00 in St. Oswald’s Church.
