Derby Church Net is marking it’s 10th anniversary this
year! And with it, comes the same anniversary of the website, www.derbychurch.net.
This was the first part of the communications network to be put in place, back
in January 2000.
All the other developments came as a result later on, building
on the site - including the magazine, directory, printing services and other
communication initiatives from time to time.
Over the years, the same basic elements have remained on
the site, although there has been significant ongoing development going on behind
the scenes and in the layout of the site. Right from the start there has been
news, events, Find a Church, prayer, jobs, and local information - all elements
that remain integral services on the site today.
One of the biggest changes was when Derby Church Net started
working county-wide. Firstly with the Find a Church and paper directory, and
later with the magazine, the content of the website took on this new dynamic.
The county-wide work is still growing.
In a world where a presence on the Internet for any organisation
is taken for granted, the Derby Church Net site provides a portal for anyone
interested in the Christian community - whether it be a casual visitor or enquirer,
through to church leaders. Many smaller churches simply don’t have the
expertise to put a website together, so this site provides a valuable service
to ensure every congregation has at least their basic contact and service details
available to see.
There is strength in numbers, and by mutual links between
this hub and individual church sites, it helps search engines, and thus the
general public, find pages and rank them well. Does your church site link in?
The web is never still, and there are always more developments
happening. Some are behind the scenes, making things work easier. But others
will be visible to all. Why not bookmark the home page, and check it regularly
for the latest events and other information on what’s going on across
Derbyshire’s Christian community?
